Expanded story written for the meme prompt 'Gen, early Season 1. Dean experiences a serious illness while Sam is away at Stanford and hides the leftover or recurring symptoms from him once Sam is back on the road. Then Dean collapses during a hunt...' Not a deathfic

    Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Sam should have made his brother stay in bed at the motel. He had been throwing up half the night. But Dean claimed he was good. And Sam was tired, and mourning Jessica, and he let it go. If Dean wanted to be a stupid jerk, Sam wasn’t going to stop him. Besides, they were hunting goblins. It was basically a pest removal job.

    AKB 73: 300 words

    Appetite: 259 words

Sometimes my youngest cat likes to plant herself right in front of the door of our apartment. My guess on the matter is that she thinks by doing so, she can prevent us from leaving. Which is both cute and sad.

The last few days have been bad writing days; I'm hoping this is a trend that does NOT continue. You know, I look forward so much to November--NaNo and Thanksgiving--and, at the same time, I always forget how incredibly STRESSFUL November is, invariably. Not even just with those two polestars; it's like November is some kind of freaky magnet for misfortune and frustration, the full moon month of the year.

Anyway. I don't know whether it's because I'm deliberately and consciously trying to work on more than one project at a time or a fundamental fault elsewhere, but I feel like I'm struggling with everything I write so much. The analogy I gave [info]merepersiflage yesterday was trying to follow a bad radio signal, one that keeps fading in and out between curtains of static. There was a brief period of a few paragraphs where I had the voice for Gabe (Appetite) and it felt good and right and then it was gone again and now I can't quite get it back. I know what's supposed to be happening now, but when it comes to actually writing it out, it's an epic battle.

And I'm not really competitive in most arenas, but it's sometimes doubly hard when I'm entering word counts for [info]mini_nanowrimo and I see that people have written 2 or 4 (or more) thousand words that day, while I was grudging out my 500. And some of it is jealousy and some of it is regret because there was a time when *I* could do that and some of it is a nagging sense of failure.

Which I AM trying not to dwell on, believe it or not.

I am starting to wonder if I'm ever going to have the time and ability to do a regular NaNo again, though, as long as I'm tied to [info]mini_nanowrimo. It's a great idea and I very much don't want to see it fail, but it is also INCREDIBLY time-consuming (even with my co-mods taking up an incredible amount of work, omg, thank you, y'all!) and I do sometimes feel resentful that it's taking up so much of my very slender, very precious free time, when I could be using it to write myself. While my writing 'ambitions' (and I use that word laughingly) are erratic and ever-changing and don't necessarily involve publication, I am very jealous and protective of that time. Whether for fun or money, writing is such an important avocation to me. I can't and won't give it up.

Could someone please write for me?

Hi! I'm new to this whole livejournal thing. Just stumbled on this site a few weeks ago, when I was searching for more Life on Mars fanfiction. After watching the Life on Mars series, I watched A2A but it's just not the same. So I make up for it with fanfics - which are all brilliant!!!

I was wondering if someone could please write a story to do with this prompt. I've had this idea running through my head for a while now.

    Type: Fic
    Fandom/Tv Show: Life on Mars
    Pairing/Character: Sam/Annie
Details: Sam and Chris gets captured by a crimelord who hates Gene because of a fight in the past. Gene, Ray, Annie, Phylis and the rest of the gang have to work hard to find them. Show Sam trying to protect Chris from getting beaten up - fluff. Lots of Sam bashing. Maybe have Litton make an appearance? Would be nice to see Gene in a protective light.

Thank you! I would really appreciate if someone could do a story on this! =]

    I was wondering...

...Hello! Hi! I've been lurking here for God knows how long. But I'm running out into the open at last with a random thought.

So we know the TARDIS is getting a makeover for 2010. Has it occurred to anyone else that this means RTD might have it completely destroyed in DT's last episodes, to give the Moff a decent excuse for revamping it?

Or is it just my Doctor Who deprived brain coming up with strange conclusions again?

Why this must be read: Here's another amazing Yuletide fic ('tis the season, after all) - and another amazing fic that takes a look at John and Chas through the lens of a good, well-managed plot.

This time around we have John's point of view on a problem Chas brings to him, which changes the feel of the fic and the portrayal of their friendship rather drastically, but very much in a way that's true to their characters. John is spot on here - cynical but genuine, friendship mixed with mockery - and it really carries the fic.

A little weirder, a little lighter, a little more magical, this is out of a different era of Hellblazer than the fics I've recced before, but it's every bit as enjoyable.

Shoot First, Apologize Later by Dira Sudis (NC-17)
    Fandom: TORCHWOOD
    Pairing: Jack/Ianto
    Length: 6,500 words
    Author on LJ: [info]dsudis
    Author Website: Words Words Words
Why this must be read: I love how this story dumps us into the middle of a fight, unravels to reveal a ridiculous misunderstanding, throws in some nicely entwined comedy and action, and just keeps ramping up from there. It also has Jack being, well, rather adorably Jack-ish, which understandably drives Ianto to bitchiness. Mmmmmm. I don't know about you, but bitchy Ianto is one of my favourite things, and [info]dsudis writes him so well. :)

    long-fic recs
I love a good, long, well-written fic that you can really sink your teeth into. It's so satisfying! Here are just a few such long-fics.

    Exit Wounds by [info]backinblack
Author’s notes/summary: Dean, brought back from hell, deals with dreams and things not quite fitting into place. Warnings: Noncon, dubcon, Dean in hell, mentions of violence and gore, explicit hardcore sex (emphasis on explicit), some unsavory situations involving tentacles. Seriously. I know this sounds dire and may put some people off, but give it a chance! NC-17, Demon/Dean, Other/Dean, Sam/Dean.

Reccer’s notes: What the author said in the warnings!

I’m really glad I gave this one a chance. This is an original, compelling look at post-hell Dean. Told from his deceptively calm POV, this fic managed to shock me and disturb me like only the best horror can. And I can’t neglect to mention overly!protective! Sam, who is SO scarily hot.

    Red by [info]big_pink
Author's notes/summary: Something evil is killing treeplanters in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, possibly the same predator that Dean narrowly escaped years before. How Grimm will things get before the brothers figure it out? PG-13, gen.

Reccer's notes: This fic has been recced everywhere, but no one should miss it. Yeah, it's a hurt!Dean epic, but it's also just plain epic. It's also a 100% beautifully constructed story.

And Hell Followed With Him by [info]legoline
Author’s notes/summary: Dean's gone to Hell, and Hell's come to Earth. After the apocalypse, Sam is the leader of some of the last remaining people who are continually caught in a struggle against the demons that walk amongst them. Castiel, burdened by a terrible secret, has gone into hiding among the humans. One day, four years after his deal was up, a battered Dean returns from Hell at the same time that suspicions begin that there is a mole in the camp. While Sam and Dean are too broken to find the courage to believe in the reality of what has happened, rumors of treason spread quickly across the camp. With the tension nearing a breaking point, Sam is suddenly faced with the possibility that his brother, who he once thought was gone to him forever, has returned and is bringing Hell with him. An alternate take on season 4. Rated "R" for language, violence and dark themes. Lots of Dean!whumpage and angst. Gen.

Reccer’s notes: A well-crafted and well-realized AU. I LOVED all the twists. I’m a big fan of the mystery genre and you don’t get that a lot in fic. It hurt that Dean was so broken here, but I found this story to be actually quite hopeful in the end, and incredibly satisfying.

    Blind Spot by [info]pdragon76
Author’s notes/summary: Dean’s on a slow burn after a bloody confrontation with an old nemesis. Sam’s got his hands full picking up the pieces. The Crossroads Deal isn’t the only timer ticking. Warnings for language, whump and sex. AU, set six months after AHBL2. S3 free-zone. NC-17 (language, whump, sex.) Gen.

Reccer’s notes: Oh man, this is one of my favourite SPN fics. EVER. Incredibly well-plotted and characterized, with high levels of Dean!whump that are never gratuitous, but just right. Kind of makes me never want to bother writing anything again. It’s that good!

Swear By All Flowers by [info]sweetestdrain
Author’s notes/summary: Two years after the yellow-eyed demon is defeated, the Winchesters are still waiting for their happy ending. 37,000+ words. Warnings for language and adult content. Call it NC-17 to be safe, Sam/Dean.

Reccer’s notes: This is one of the most beautiful fics of all times. I haven't even words to describe how incredibly beautiful it is. Dean comes close to dying due to a curse and Sam does everything to save him and no summary in the whole wide word could ever do this fic justice. Just read it. Even if you hate wincest, just give it a try.

The Woods are Lonely, Dark and Deep by [info]zatnikatel
    Author’s notes/summary: N/A, not rated. Gen.

Reccer's notes: After leaving Kathleen Hudak, Dean gets snatched by Missy Bender and her brother, because Missy is deeply in love with the 'purty boy'. That is the beginning of Dean's first encounter with Hell, way before he died. This fic started as a tag to "The Benders" but went way beyond. What I like about this is the breathlessness the author creates, the style is fantastic and she has written a wonderful Kathleen Hudak, who I adore and admire and who I can absolutely picture as a tough and capable police-officer. Zatnikatel hurts Dean not really more than any other author, but she strips him of his personality along the way and leaves him broken, shattered and nearly beyond repair. Warning: reference to non-con, heavy violence, heavy swearing, substance abuse and violent deaths of animals and people (no Winchesters, Singer or Hudak, though).

The Killing Moon by [info]zatnikatel (WIP)
Author’s notes/summary: N/A, not rated. Sequel to The Woods are Lonely, Dark and Deep. Gen.

Reccer's notes: The Winchesters get called back to Hibbing county to help Kathleen Hudak with some very unnatural disappearances of hikers in the woods. Bobby and Sam don't really want to take a still more-than-messed-up Dean, but are left with no choice. What I like about this: while "The Woods..." is focused on messing up and hurting Dean, (and Sam by default) the sequel puts the main focus on how to fix someone who seems to be beyond repair. She writes wonderful inner-voices, mainly Dean and Sam and Kathleen, sets a pace that leaves you gasping for air and creates a suspenseful plot around a human ship-wreck. I admire her ability to show the reader that violence, abduction and torture - and the after-effects thereof - mess not only with the victim, but traumatizes the family nearly as much, though on a whole different level. The story is full of twists and turns and still more hurt for poor Dean. In a nutshell: a perfect fic. (Same warnings as "The Woods...")

The comm needs YOU. Please leave any Dean-focused hurt/comfort recs you may have at our rec submission post.

Rating: cracky green Cortina crossover silliness

    Okay. Now I'm worried

For the most part I'm fairly confident in Steven, Matt and Karen's ability to do well in the next series. Steven is a brilliant writer (no-one can deny that) and if Matt was chosen after three weeks of auditions that I'm certain he will do well. And after the mess RTD has been making of things recently things can only get better right?

Well I just saw this and now I'm worried.
